new government dietary guidelines
Do you remember the food pyramid? When I was in school, admittedly a few years ago, we learned what was good to eat with a pyramid diagram. As I recall carbs were on the bottom, although we called it grains then, meat and vegetables somewhere in the middle and sugar in the tip. Not too bad, now that I think about it, but today on the news they announced that the government has come out with new dietary guidelines. According to these guidelines less than 10% of our daily diet should consist of added sugars, less that 10% fat, less that 2300 milligrams of sodium per day and, for women, 1600 to 2400 calories per day. I was contemplating these guidelines as I enjoyed a delicious little cheese cake for dessert this evening. I think I like the old pyramid better. The bigger the tip, the bigger the base, right?
