drink up and decorate...

According to my west coast source, today is National Hydration Day.  This is very important for all of us who have just come through last week's flash drought.  It's a real thing.  One of the local weather persons explained it.  I've certainly learned my lesson about hydration.  My kidney doctor tells me I must drink 64-72 ounces of water a day.  That's five to six large (16 ounce) glasses. By the way, coffee and iced tea don't count because caffeine dehydrates you.  Fruit juice is ok. But enough of the bad news.  While you're sipping your water let me tell you what else is special today.  It's Pink Flamingo Day.  I have never wanted a pink flamingo in my front yard.  I once had a little concrete donkey pulling a two wheeled cart in my front yard, kindly left behind by the sellers of our house in Ohio.  It was semi-cute but I decided it looked better in the back yard at the edge of the grape arbor.  As I said, I have never really wanted a pink flamingo in my yard, which is probably just as well because I doubt if the HOA or my spouse would approve.  However, I was surprised, on our recent trip to Florida.  I've seen the postcards and the refrigerator magnets and expected at least a few pink flamingos in every yard.  Not so.  I don't think we saw more than three of the pink plastic pretenders in the whole state.  How disappointing.
