Today we celebrated my oldest granddaughter's 21st birthday. Her birthday is actually not until next week but she will be leaving for her summer job, an eight hour drive away, on Monday. Even though it was a few days early her other grandma had provided some wine for the occasion. This wasn't quite the thrill it might have been, since my granddaughter has just come home from a semester studying international business in France. As she reminded us several time, it had been legal for her to drink in France. I haven't heard all the details but I do believe she had a very good time in Europe. And it wasn't all spent studying. Since she is very fluent in French, she was able to travel easily, and she and friends spent weekends on the Riviera and in Florence among other places. I am a little envious. The furthest I travelled when I was 20, going on 21, was to Mishawaka, with side trips to South Bend, for my first teaching job. Ah well, we always want more for our children and grandchildren than for ourselves.
